This week’s Farm Safety Week is organised by the Farm Safety Foundation – also known as Yellow Wellies. This was set up by the NFU Mutual to raise awareness of farm safety and challenge the risk-taking behaviours that give farming the poorest safety record of any occupation in the UK. Farming accounts for 1% of the working population but 16% of all workplace deaths. A total of 21 farm workers and 6 members of the public, including a child, lost their lives on farms over the past year with the biggest cause of death being vehicle related.
