From the 2021 scheme year, the government is proposing to end the need for farmers to comply with “greening requirements” as part of its plans to simplify the Basic Payment Scheme (BPS). These changes will not affect the overall payment received by each farmer as the money will be added to farmers’ entitlements under the Basic Payment Scheme.  Note that 2021 will be the first year of the phase out of the Basic Payment Scheme with a proposed cut of 5% to BPS up to £30,000 with increasing cuts to payments over this threshold.
