On Thursday, Defra announced a new grant to help towards the cost of calf housing to improve health and welfare.  The housing must provide a good ambient environment and facilitate social contact through pair or group housing.  The minimum grant is £15,000 with a maximum of £500,000 per business with a grant of up to 40% of costs.  Eligible costs include installation of Solar PV and associated battery storage.  The project must be discussed with the farm’s vet and there is a 3 stage application process starting with an on-line eligibility checker which is expected to open later in the summer.  Click here for the announcement, specifications and information on how to apply.
