FARMING RULES FOR WATER

The Farming Rules for Water include that the application of organic manure must be planned so it does not either exceed the needs of the soil or crop on agricultural land, or give rise to a significant risk of diffuse pollution. On 25th August, Defra updated its Regulatory Position Statement (RPS) on how farmers should approach spreading manures this autumn where it is not possible to comply with this rule - see: RPS252 - spreading manure on agricultural land. It is important that you follow this RPS if you are not able to comply with the Farming Rules for Water and the NFU is continuing to lobby on this issue – see Farming Rules for Water - latest NFU guidance.
