Extension of Farming Recovery Fund

Defra has announced an extension of the Farming Recovery Fund for farmers affected by the flooding in February Farming Recovery Fund announcement 20.3.20.  This only applies in certain areas which includes North Yorkshire, but not Cumbria.  The grants are for between £500 and £25,000 and cover some uninsurable repair costs, such as reinstating field boundaries, removing debris from fields and re-seeding.  The Three Crop Rule is also being relaxed for 2020 because of the impact of the floods.

This announcement is very welcome for farmers in the Yorkshire Dales but it is not clear why Cumbria has been excluded as we are aware of farmers that have experienced damage.

Note that farmers affected by last year’s floods (eg in Swaledale) have until 31st March to submit their grant application.
