Farming Education Project

The Farmer Network has applied to Cumbria Community Foundation to run a series of farm walks and education visits in Cumbria this Summer.

We have already held one school visit to High Snab Farm in the Newlands Valley, with the next event being held in partnership with the Herdwick Sheep Breeders Association on Sunday 17th June at Nook Farm, Rosthwaite, Borrowdale starting at 11am. This will be a combination of farm walks, displays of sheep, shearing and walling demonstrations and sheep dog handling.

Later in the summer we are planning two farm walks at Low Stanger Farm near Cockermouth and at the Marstons at Wharton near Kirkby Stephen, another school visit and our Fell Gather display will visit Grasmere Sports on the last Sunday in August.

All the events are aimed at communicating to members of the public and visitors about the role farming has in shaping the landscape and to help improve their understanding about how farming operates.
