Although our main focus is housing for the tenant farmer retiring from their farm, we have a small grant giving arm to our work which helps farmers experiencing hardship, with grants toward certain business costs which can be directly attributed to a particular disaster. We are currently accepting applications from farmers in Cumbria and North Lancashire who are being faced with additional costs due to the effect the floods have had on their business. To give examples, we are helping with a grant towards replacing sheep feed which was washed away, the transport costs towards the cost of having to move stock off the farm to dry grazing. We cannot help with farm debt or with invoices which cant be paid due to farm economics, but in times of emergency and where hardship prevails we can fill in the gaps.
There is an application process and our grants will not necessarily cover the whole cost, but we hope that a contribution towards this unanticipated additional expenditure will soften the blow of the costs of the floods
