AGRICULTURAL BUDGET FEARS

The Farming and Countryside Programme (FCP) annual report has revealed a £130 million agricultural budget underspend for 2023/24 and a £358 million underspend over the past three years.  This has been highlighted by the NFU as part of their “Back British Farming” campaign with NFU President, Tom Bradshaw raising ‘concern' that the Government may use the underspend to justify a cut in the farming budget.  He highlights the fact that the underspend has not happened because the investment is not needed, "it has happened because the schemes to replace the Basic Payment Scheme [BPS] have not been completed in time and there are still many gaps and questions unanswered.”  Please help the NFU by raising awareness with your own MP in the run up to the Government’s budget review in October.
