Completely out of the blue, some members in the Yorkshire Dales have received emails from Defra this week with notification of a payment from the Flood Recovery Fund. This is a result of changes to the eligibility for the scheme announced after the Budget - it now covers areas of the most extensive river flooding from Storm Babet in October 2023 and Storm Henk in January 2024, plus local authority areas where at least half the area experienced exceptional rainfall from October 2023 to March 2024. Eligible land parcels have been identified in these areas and payment made for a set proportion of total eligible farm area. You can’t apply for this payment – farmers who are eligible are being notified by email so check your emails just in case! Payments range from £2,895 to £25,000 and more information is at Defra - Farming Recovery Payments.
