FARMING RULES FOR WATER – GUIDANCE PUBLISHED

This week Defra published the criteria that the Environment Agency will use when Applying the Farming Rules for Water particularly for autumn and winter applications of organic manures.  This is welcome as there is a lot of confusion about how the rules will be interpreted by the EA, but still concern about the extent of the investment required to comply at a time of high input costs and reductions to BPS.  This is complex and we recommend you read the guidance and, if needed, seek professional advice from a FACTS qualified adviser.  In high priority areas for water quality, local Catchment Sensitive Farming Officers can assist – go to: CSF guidance and support.
