DO YOU RENT OUT PROPERTY?

The Renters’ Rights Act comes into force from 1st May and abolishes Section 21 ‘no-fault’ evictions and automatically converts all “assured shorthold” tenancies to “assured periodic tenancies”.  Changes have also been made to the grounds on which a landlord can take possession of a property.  For new tenancies and also for existing tenancies which started after 15th January 1989, you will need to give specific written information to your tenants. This needs to be done before the end of May for existing tenancies and you can read the Government guidance and download templates here.  If you have tenants, you need to act!
