ADVICE AND INFO ON BREXIT

The Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) has guides for each farming sector on post Brexit prospects for trade and the impact of a No Deal Brexit.  They also have a Brexit impact calculator, webinars and podcasts with Brexit analysis and advice:  https://ahdb.org.uk/brexit.

Defra has advice to farmers on the implications of a possible No Deal Brexit which is particularly relevant for exporters, those that employ staff or who deal directly with EU businesses. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/the-farming-sector-and-preparing-for-eu-exit.

Defra’s Farming is Changing leaflet published in August 2019 sets out the proposed changes to support payments in the Agriculture Bill:   https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/future-farming-changes-to-farming-in-england.  The Agriculture Bill was included in this Monday’s Queen’s Speech but the timescales and details may be subject change as the Bill goes through Parliament.

CUMBRIA GROWTH CATALYST FREE FARM BUSINESS REVIEW

The Farmer Network has received funding from the Cumbria Growth Catalyst programme to provide one-to-one advice to help farmers review their businesses given the proposed changes to agricultural support payments.

The review takes around 2 hours and includes:

  • information about the proposals in the Agriculture Bill,
  • analysis of the farm’s accounts,
  • consideration of the business’ strengths and weaknesses and
  • discussion about possible options for the future.

A report summarising the review is provided after the visit.
