SUSTAINABLE FARMING INCENTIVE 2022

Yesterday, Defra published more information about the Sustainable Farming Incentive for 2022.  This will include 3 standards for arable soils, improved grassland soils and moorland & rough grazing.  There will also be funding for an annual health and welfare review.  There are 2 levels for the improved grassland soils standard.  The introductory level is at £28/ha and requires you to:

  • test soil organic matter
  • undertake a soil assessment and produce a soil management plan
  • maintain 95% green cover (no more than 5% bare ground over winter)

The intermediate level will pay £58/ha and includes all these introductory level actions, plus establishing or maintaining herbal leys on at least 15% of land in the standard.
