SUSTAINABLE FARMING INCENTIVE 2022 – SOIL STANDARDS PAYMENTS ANNOUNCED

At the Cereals event this week, George Eustice announced new information about the Sustainable Farming Incentive 2022 including:

  • an “Improved Grassland Soils Standard” with payments of up to £70/ha;
  • an “Arable & Horticultural Soils Standard” with payments of up to £60/ha;
  • funding for assessing habitats and the management of moorland/rough grazing;
  • funding for a Health & Welfare Annual Review including vet costs and testing e.g. for BVD in cattle and anthelmintic resistance in sheep.

The new soil standards for improved grassland and arable/horticulture are different from those originally announced in the SFI pilot with substantially higher payment rates.  The full statement is at: Agricultural Transition Plan June 2021 update.  Veronica has written a BRIEFING summarising the new information about SFI 2022 and what is known so far about the SFI pilot.
