The National Trust’s “Heart of the Dales” is a Landscape Recovery project funded by Defra. The initial 2-year phase will focus on working up a potential scheme delivering for nature, climate resilience and carbon sequestration, with a bespoke approach for each farm. As part of the project, the Farmer Network is coordinating workshops and trips for the National Trust tenants which has included farm walks looking at tree planting and management of cattle with “no fence” collars and a 2 day visit to the Lake District visiting the Orton Fells Cluster, the Ullswater CIC and James Rebanks’ farm at Matterdale.
