Farmers whose Mid-Tier agreements end on 31st December 2025 are facing a period of “limbo” with the Sustainable Farming Incentive not available until at least April 2026. A Freedom of Information request by the NFU has revealed this affects over 5,800 farm businesses (see Photo of the Week at the end of ENews). This not only affects the income of these businesses at a time of accelerated cuts to BPS, but it also erodes confidence in environmental schemes. The NFU is urging Defra to set out a clear way forward before these agreements come to an end including allowing existing Mid-Tier agreements to roll over for one year and accelerating the development of the new SFI scheme.
