GREEN HOME ENERGY GRANTS
This was announced in early August and more details are expected in September. Under the scheme, the government will pay at least two-thirds of the cost of home improvements that save energy, up to £5,000. Vouchers will be provided to install: solid wall, under-floor, cavity wall or roof insulation, air source or ground source heat pumps and solar thermal. The vouchers may also be used for one or more of the following:
- double or triple glazing/secondary glazing, when replacing single glazing;
- upgrading to energy efficient doors;
- hot water tank/appliance tank thermostats/heating controls.
Note gas/oil boilers are not included and it does not cover the cost of installing renewable electricity such as Solar PV. See the Which magazine article on Green Homes Grant.
DIGITAL BORDERLANDS VOUCHER SCHEME
Rural businesses and households with broadband speeds of less than 30Mbps can apply for vouchers to support the cost of installing new gigabit-capable connections if they get together with at least one other household/business. For more information click on: Digital-Voucher-Scheme
