Fell Gather Roadshow

One of our company aims is to raise the profile of farming to the public which we achieve by holding events and working with organisations, the media and schools. The Farmer Network’s “Fell Gather” is one such event that we organise every year taking it on the road to various locations such as here at Grasmere Sports. It includes a display of sheep breeds and commentary about hill farming by the Chairman of the Herdwick Sheep Breeders' Association and other farmer volunteers.

On Sunday 26th August we took our Fell gather event to Grasmere Sports. George Sibson, Will Benson, Jack and Alex Bland kindly came down for the day with their sheep and despite the very damp conditions Will Rawling and the farmers managed to attract a crowd. The demonstrations included talks on the farming calendar, the different Cumbrian sheep breeds, sheep management and how farming has shaped the landscape. Will Rawling got a well-deserved rest from the commentary when Will Benson took over for one of the demonstration, discussing a typical farming year on his farm in Grasmere which went down very well with the crowd.

These events are run by volunteers and any money raised at these events goes to The Princes Countryside Fund.
