On Wednesday, Defra published its Farming Roadmap 2050: Growing England's Future. The Government says the Farming Roadmap will bring together long-term strategies, reforms and commitments, and provide “a flexible framework for the sector’s journey towards 2050, recognising that there is no single route to success. It enables different farming systems and businesses to adapt in ways that best suit their circumstances as markets, technologies and environmental conditions continue to evolve.”
It is evident that government has listened to farmers concerns and understands the many challenges which the industry faces, but much more detail is needed around the three main delivery themes, “profitable and productive”, “Sustainable” and “resilient”. We recommend that members take the time to read the document as the direction of travel within the farming roadmap is clear, if not the route!
