ELMS LANDSCAPE RECOVERY – UPPER DUDDON

The Upper Duddon Landscape Recovery project has now started and over a period of 20 years will work with local farmers, environmental organisations and the local community to manage 2,800 hectares in the South-West Lake District. The project aims to restore habitats including temperate rainforest and hay meadows, help the recovery of species including tree pipit, pine marten and water vole and with river restoration work to improve water quality and reduce flood risk downstream.  Eight farms are involved in the project which is being led by the University of Leeds with other partners including the National Trust, Forestry England, South Cumbria Rivers Trust and the University of Cumbria.  The project received national news coverage this week – read more here.
