Friends of the Lake District

Friends of the Lake District is an independent charity whose vision is of thriving Cumbrian landscapes – for nature, for people, for ever.

In working to fulfil this vision, we and campaign for a fair system of payments for farmers and advocate for nature-friendly farming and for recognition of the full range of public benefits generated by farming – including food security, cultural heritage, biodiversity, access, and climate resilience. We also run rural skills competitions and events and trial new land management techniques on the commons and other land that we own, from conservation grazing and habitat creation to climate change resilience.
