In response to a number of concerns raised by members across the Networks about recent budget announcements, we are holding two Inheritance Tax/Farm Succession webinars. The first was held this week for farmers in Cumbria and Northumberland. Andrew Robinson of Armstrong Watson Accountants talked through the proposed changes to the tax rules offering some excellent tax liability examples on screen. Then Tom Wills and Sam Watts from Sinton’s Solicitors, Newcastle Upon Tyne discussed succession issues, necessary actions and possible solutions.
All the speakers then went on to answer a number of questions from farmers attending the webinar some of which were clearly complicated situations. It is clear that far more farming families may be affected by the proposed tax changes than government believes. More than 120 farmers have booked to attend between both meetings. The Yorkshire online meeting takes place next week.
