BLUETONGUE CASE IN EAST YORKSHIRE

Following the report last week of cases in Norfolk and Suffolk, Bluetongue virus BTV-3 has now been confirmed in a single bull at a farm near Withernsea in the East Riding of Yorkshire. A 20km Temporary Control Zone has been put in place and this can be viewed on Defra’s Interactive Map.  Bluetongue virus can be spread by:

  • certain species of biting midges,
  • movement of infected animals and animal products,
  • pregnant animals transmitting the virus to their young.
