Our next event for the “next generation” of Lake District farmers will be hosted by Richard and Alison Maxwell at Howside Farm. Richard and Alison have been tenants of the National Trust since taking on Howside as a small 100 acre starter farm. Since then, they have taken advantage of many other opportunities in Ennerdale including taking on the hefted flock of Herdwick sheep on Pillar, grazing land for the Forestry Commission and being part of the Wild Ennerdale project. We will hear how the Maxwells have developed their ideas over the years and how they farm today in a nature friendly way with Herdwick sheep and a high health herd of Galloway cattle.
